The Silent Shadow

The Silent Shadow

The subtle change in the wind took the dried leave up in the air and hit the boy’s chest. The boy took the dried leave in his hand and watched as the dry leave broke piece by piece. So fragile as he turned the leave to dust by clasping the leave in his hand. The boy was never gentle to something so fragile.

Strange Figure

Walking inside the high school door, he squished himself through the chaos of happy faces, smiling, love, all the feelings which he had never felt before and considered it disgusting. While getting through the rubble of heads, the wind hit him again from a window which moved his hair strands over his eyes. Transfixed by the sight, he witnessed a strange figure standing a few meters before him with a walking stick and a long black coat to cover the winter breeze completely. The blood lust of the figure was felt in the air. The smell of death was strong enough to put him in the dark limbo. He watched as the strange figure lifted his round hat to look at the boy. Mouth of the strange human was stitched, iron wires piercing through the lips zig-zag like a DNA over it. As school walked past the boy’s eye the figure vaporised into thin air. The heartbeat was slowly back to its rhythmic tune and the fear of death dissolved. The boy’s thoughts for the whole day was occupied by the strange man who looks at him with a desire to kill. The bright light from the sky dimmed slowly as it set on the horizon. The boy left the school and walk towards his home. He strolled through the bridge and buildings to his home. It was a quite long journey to his nest. While walking past the bridge he was shocked to see the strange figure leaning on the pillar on the bridge frontier. The boy slowed down as he watched the strange man saw him and took his cane and came towards him. The strings attached to his heart keys vibrated as it created a melancholy played at the funeral. The whole scene was completely colourless and lifeless. The boy couldn’t hear anything and the strange man-made a ‘thud’ with his cane to the ground. All of a sudden, the earth started moving again. The strange figure disappeared again.

Silent Nature

The boy reached his home and took a sigh of relief. The house was pretty small situated in the outskirts of the city where people just above poverty where staying. He then took off his shoes and walked with his sock into his room and locked it. The house was silent again. The boy pulled his earphones and started listening to his music while he got hold of the joystick and began playing his video game. Millions of colour gradient reflected in his eye as the game crossed levels before he blinked his eye. The boy never barely lets any word out. His voice cord has become numb due to his silence. His house acts as a void where sound can’t trespass. ‘Dud Dud’ someone knocked at the door. The boy unlocked the door and went back to play the game. A woman was standing holding her walker. She was his mom who had a blend of greyish black hair and wrinkled face with socked eyes. The boy ignored her glance and started playing his game, without even uttering a word as usual. The mom had the stare of kindness towards his boy with no love over her. She pulled, and pulled, and pulled to an empty thread at the end. Probing for the love she lost, she screamed for the affection but the voice was lost and silenced in the home. She knew her days were numbered as she was not getting well from her pills. The evil disease was consuming her body day by day, minute by minute as her life dissolves into oblivion. She later closed the door of her boy’s room as the demand for love was rejected. She climbed her way up the staircase, took her pills and lie on her bed waiting for the next day to seek love from her only child. ‘Tick Tock’ as minutes passed by, the only sound that was heard inside the home. All of the sudden, that sound seizes to exist as all the colours faded away into grey. The boy could feel it again, blood lust in the air like a huge weight pushing his body down, down deeper into the hell. The temperature of the room soared high as he turned himself away from the screen, he saw the strange man again sitting on the couch near his bead with his cane infront. ‘Thud Thud’ he made bashed the cane to the floor. The strange man smirked at the boy as he was sweating himself down to the ground and crawling backwards from his nightmare. The strange man smiled wide and slowly the wire stitched around his mouth started loosening up. It started tearing his mouth as the man opened his mouth wide with blood dropping from his lips. The room was filled with an aura of darkness, the boy assumed this could be the end of his life and closed his as the screeching sound pierced the silent void of the home. The voice sucked the life out of boy bringing him into a new reality. When the sound was gone, the boy opened his eyes to find himself into a new dimension of space where he wasn’t born.

Realm of Truth

He was in a dark space where there was nothing around him. A wide panoramic light glowed above him where it was like an old movie reel was played. He was surprised to find his mom in the reel as he saw himself as a baby clinching to his mother’s breast. She was expressing her joy looking at him with a smile. The reel now shows his dad who died a few years back from a rare disease. His dad was the only source of income for the family. He was abusive by nature and he never was like a daddy to his only boy. The man was addicted to drugs and snorted it all way to heaven and brings down hell to home. His mother was displeased living with him but held her life for the boy she loved. After the death of his father, the woman and her child moved to the outskirts of the city to look for an occupation to earn for life. His mother had no choice but to enter the world of pleasure. She worked as a stripper in a strip club during the evening and turns up home. She was heavily abused in her work and again she held her pain to give the life her boy desired. The boy rarely utters words to his mother but he was silent most of the time while his father was alive. But after his father’s death and mom never coming home during evening leaving him all alone felt like a life without living it. The boy saw through the door gap whenever his mom enters the home at night. Whenever his mom runs towards him for a hug, he hid in his room and ignored her as he hated her for not being the mom he desired to be. After the door was closed, tears dropped from the eye of his mother, she slowly walked upstairs to her room and moved to her windows and shed tears of pain. The boy was watching all her in this realm and understood the truth and disappointed with his act of silence. In time, his mother was diagnosed with the disease she received as a gift from the world of pleasure and sand-clock started dripping dust down. She knew that she won’t be there for her son in his future. She lasted long for his love and she will wait till she can breathe in that silent house. Tears moved down the boy’s face as the reel ended in the new dimension. He came back to his world and found the strange man sitting there with torn stitches. He removed his hat and moved his hair strands covering his face. The boy was shocked to discover who the stranger was. It was himself! from another reality.

Last word

It was him, but older. He realized that it was him from another reality where he is suffering from being silent and was silenced forever with the stitches, he weaved on his mouth. The stranger slowly dissipated himself again leaving the trails of memory by his loving mother. The boy rubbed off his tears and opened his door to go to his mother. The rays of light shine through the windows as he took each step on the stairs. He moved near her room and he saw her lying on the bed looking at the bright light from the window. She was seeing a bird’s nest in the tree which has grown near the window. It was a sight of the mother bird feeding the baby birds and the birds were chirping happily as they got the meal served. His mother was happy watching silence being silenced in their home. She turned to her head to see her son standing at her door watching her leave the body. The red flower has withered its petals and sand was completely drained to the bottom in the clock. He was lamenting in pain to see his dead mother as the last words stumbled from his lips. “Maa!”
